Ready For Change

2022

This project, both a team and individual effort, was developed in collaboration with Sunset Studios to enhance their productivity and sustainability. My role focused on realigning their production cycle toward a more eco-friendly approach. I contributed by tracking their consumable goods, identifying waste, and proposing sustainable solutions to minimize their environmental impact.

The Client is a dynamic duo offering their distinctive photo studios for rent to photographers seeking urban texture or open, versatile spaces. Their studios boast a rich variety of textures—from rugged walls and industrial pillars to the rustic appeal of old factory windows. Located in Copeland Park, their space is nestled within a thriving community that is passionate about fostering a vibrant, creative urban environment.

During a day spent observing the client's operations, I tracked the movement throughout the space to identify areas where our intervention could be implemented. The team developed a portable water station with reusable cups, addressing the frequent use of single-use water bottles. My proposed intervention, however, was a portable changing station, as the client didn’t have one, and their overall waste consumption was already quite low.

To make the changing curtain portable, it needed to be collapsible for easy movement. Using origami techniques, I plan to repurpose the waste paper from the backdrops of photoshoots to create my design.

The final design, shown below, incorporates a technique that fully encloses the person for privacy. The collapsible origami structure allows it to be easily moved and repositioned as needed.
